Do you own a holiday cottage with empty weeks that you'd like to swap?

We have a great holiday cottage at Grasmere in the Lake District.

It's called Brockstone Cottage ( brock is the old word for the badger) If you click through this link to our holiday cottage you'll see how it looks, where the cottage is, and how fabulous the views are.

Like lots of  holiday cottage owners, we know that there are times of the year when our cottage probably won't be let. Yet during those weeks , we feel that someone out there would really enjoy staying at our cottage. Then we hit on the idea- why not let other cottage owners stay at our cottage, and we can stay at their cottage? My guess is that lots of us owners would like to do this out of our main visitor season.

I've looked online, and found lots of complicated sites for holiday exchanges and holiday swaps. Most of them involve overseas properties, but I was just thinking of just trying to get together a list, a sort of noticeboard, of other owners in the UK. I'm thinking of a very low , hassle free budget break, where other owners can just get in the car and drive to a top notch cottage for a week or so, off season, and enjoy a change of scene at no cost, other than having to clean their own property.

I'm going to start searching to see if I can find some other owners who might be interested in a holiday cottage swap.
Here's what I'm offering- a week in our Grasmere holiday cottage, in the Lake District between 5 November and 17 December 2011, for a week somewhere in the UK. I'm flexible about where I want to go, but I would like a top quality property like ours! Probably in Devon, Dorset, Suffolk or the Cotswolds, maybe in a town or village, rather than deep countryside. What's on offer?

What do you do if you want to join in and swap your holiday cottage? Well, first of all, go over to the page "How to add your holiday cottage swap" for details. Your cottage must be registered on a  holiday letting website  so that we can verify it. Ours is registered on holiday-rentals.co.uk  and also on Holidaylettings.co.uk and can be seen on Trip Advisor too. There's no charge for now- this is an experiment! I'll add your cottage to the noticeboard and see what happens. Please read the page "How to add your holiday cottage swap to this site" before contacting me.

Let's see how this goes!
